Member Spotlight - Larzes

Dutch 2D artist Larzes, who was one of the earliest GDM members back in May 2014, is the latest member to come under the spotlight. They've got a range of 2D assets listed on their store, including a number of space shooter packs, TCG card templates and tileset packs.

I am an asset creator.

 

Full Time, Part Time or Hobby?: 

 

I do this as a hobby.

 

How long have you been doing this?: 

I’ve been creating game art and working on smaller projects for nearly 20 years. For the past 6 years, I’ve worked full time in the mobile games industry, and I published my first asset pack 8 years ago.

 

 

My passion for game art started at a young age, inspired by the pixel art of classic SNES games. As I grew older and developed my own style, I moved away from pixel art and began creating game art in Flash, and later in Illustrator.

Favourite software/tools to use?:  

 

Illustrator and Photoshop.

What’s one tip you would give to someone starting out?:   

 

When creating assets, I’d say focus on high-quality work in a specific niche. Look for gaps in the market and create assets that fill those needs.

How do you promote your work (games or assets)?:  

 

I don’t actively promote my assets, but I’ve been fortunate to have opportunities like the Humble Bundle and this Member Spotlight interview, which have helped bring visibility to my work.

What project are you working on now?:  

 

I’m currently working on a project in mobile games, but I’m not able to share details due to an NDA.

Any completed projects/work you want to promote?:   

One of my favorite projects has been Basher Beatdown. Unfortunately, we never fully released the game, but it will always have a special place in my heart.

In fact, one of the beasts from the game is even used as my profile image!

And finally, favourite game ever & why?:

I’ve been playing World of Warcraft since Classic, and based on hours spent, it’s easily my favorite game. I also enjoy the Monster Hunter and Diablo series, but in terms of time invested, they can’t come close to WoW.
