It's time for a trip to Morocco for our next Member Spotlight post, as ZeusGameAssets has given us some insight on their game dev background. ZeusGameAssets is another GDM OG, they created their account in September 2014, though were previously under the username of ZouhairSerrar, and have a mix of 2D & 3D assets listed on their store.

You can check out their full collection here.

GDM Username: ZeusGameAssets

Name/Nickname:
Zeus

Age: 36

Country: Morocco

Developer, Asset Creator or are you a bit of both?:

Both

Full Time, Part Time or Hobby?:

Full time

How long have you been doing this?:

15 years

What made you become a dev/artist?:

I've loved video games since I was a kid, and I love to create things.

Favourite software/tools to use?:

Blender for 3D Modeling, Krita and Clip Studio Paint for anything 2D, and I love Construct 2 and 3 for making small 2D games, it's a nice toy to play with. Dare I say I love Unity too? A lot of people hate the company behind it, but the engine itself is quite enjoyable to use.

What’s one tip you would give to someone starting out?:

Don't give up, the path to mastery is full of frustrations and failures, learn to enjoy it. If you condition your brain to love progress rather than outcomes you can learn anything and will be unstoppable.

The only way to enjoy anything is to acquire more knowledge about it, you can get that knowledge both from your own first-hand experience, and by taking courses and tutorials, then it comes down to how many hours you spend on something before you start enjoying it and eventually earning money doing it.

It usually takes longer than you could ever expect so stick with it for as long as you can.

How do you promote your work (games or assets)?:

I have a Youtube channel and a Discord where I create game dev tutorials and promote my art to fellow game devs from time to time.

What project are you working on now?:

I'm working on a Unity game development course about controlling a cannon to destroy passing pirate ships, it's also a game I plan to release on itch.io, here's a teaser for that course on my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ErvK0phQac

Any completed projects/work you want to promote?:

My biggest achievement recently has to be my Youtube channel with my 3 major courses about game development in Unity, I also have a crash course on there about getting up to speed with Blender and creating models, I have a beginner course about Unity and two courses, one about creating an advanced First-Person controller and another one about creating a colony management game like Rimworld.

And finally, favourite game ever & why?:

My favorite game of all time has to be Kenshi, it's the perfect mix between adventure, mystery, and role-play. I can lose myself in that world for hours, and it can seriously disrupt my work if I'm not careful, that's how I know a game is really captivating.

It was made by a very small team over 12+ years, so as a game developer, the whole project is also a big source of inspiration for me, I followed the developer for a while and learned so much from their struggles and how they approach developing such a big open-world game.
