Spain based game developer Nocturne, has been making games since the ZX Spectrum days and has been buying assets on GameDev Market since October 2015.
GDM Username: Nocturne
Name or Nickname: Mark Alexander
Age: OLD 😛
Country: Spain (But I’m British by birth)
Developer, Asset Creator or are you a bit of both?:
Developer and Asset Creator (but nothing I can publish on GDM yet, sadly, as they are code assets for GameMaker Studio 2)
Full Time, Part Time or Hobby?:
All of the above! I work full time for a software company, part time for another , and I make games as a hobby.
How long have you been doing this?: 12 or more years professionally
What made you become a dev/artist?:
Been making games as a hobby since the days of the ZX Spectrum, so it’s as natural to me as breathing.
Favourite software/tools to use?:
For game dev I use GameMaker Studio 2. I love 2D games and there’s nothing better on the market, imho. It’s easy to use, powerful and you can prototype stuff in a matter of minutes with it. For art I use pretty much PhotoShop exclusivel (yes, even for pixel art!), and for sound editing I love Goldwave. It’s not as powerful or well known as other audio software, but I really like the old-skool look and feel of it.
What’s one tip you would give to someone starting out?:
How do you promote your work (games or assets)?:
Through various mediums, but mainly Twitter and Facebook.
What project are you working on now?:
A bullet-hell game with a twist called “Void Swarm”. The twist here is that the player doesn’t actually shoot, but instead has a swarm of semi-autonomous drones that do the shooting, and you can set the drones formation to cope with different attacks from the enemy (and there’s powerups and a skill tree, etc…).
Any completed projects/work you want to promote?:
Ooooooh, shameless self promotion!!!! You can find some of my games on steam (https://store.steampowered.
And finally, favourite game ever & why?:
Ummmm…. Difficult choice, but I think I’d have to say The Witcher III. The moral ambiguity, the realistic and gritty world, the characters, the story, the scope and scale of the project… just everything about it blows me away and I think it’s one of the greatest games of all time.
